This notice explains what personal data SEQUENS collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read rather than to be survived.

The short version
If you are a school, your school owns its data. Pupil names, marks and lessons stay in the school's database and can be exported or deleted at any time. If you are a family, the same is true of your own account.
SEQUENS holds one thing about you: the email address you sign in with. There is no password, because sign-in is a code sent to your email, so there is no password to store or to breach.
No pupil data reaches the AI model. To build a lesson, the model is sent three things: a learning objective, a year group and a subject. It is not sent a name, a mark, an age in months, or anything you have recorded about a child. This is enforced in code rather than by policy: the function that calls the model is never given access to the pupil records, so a name has no route out.
What we collect, and why
Your sign-in email. Lawful basis: contract. We need it to give you an account and to send you the code that signs you in. Kept while your account is open, and deleted within 30 days of closure.
Waiting list email addresses. Lawful basis: consent, given when you submit the form. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by writing to us. Kept until you withdraw it or until we close the list.
Content you create. Lessons, plans, records and notes you generate or write. Lawful basis: contract. Held in your own account and deleted with it.
Pupil records, where a school or family enters them. Names, year groups, assessment judgements and any notes or photographs you choose to add. For a school, the school is the data controller and SEQUENS is the processor. For a family, you are in control of your own account. Lawful basis: for a school, public task or legitimate interests as set out in the school's own notice; for a family, contract.
Basic server logs. IP address and request time, kept for security and troubleshooting for no more than 30 days.
What we do not do
We do not sell personal data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to train AI models. We do not profile children. We do not run advertising or third-party analytics on this site.
Children
Accounts are held by adults. A child does not have a SEQUENS login and the AI never communicates with a child. Everything is produced for an adult, who reviews it before anything reaches a child. Photographs of work and voice notes are off by default and can be deleted at any time.
We follow the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code. A Data Protection Impact Assessment covering children's data is [TO CONFIRM] and will be available to schools on request.
Who else processes data for us
We use a small number of processors, each under a written agreement: a hosting and database provider (UK or EEA region), an email delivery provider for sign-in codes and the waiting list, and an AI model provider which receives only an objective, a year group and a subject as described above. A current list is available on request.
Where data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by an adequacy decision or by the International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep things
Account data for as long as your account is open, then deleted within 30 days. Waiting list emails until you unsubscribe. Server logs for up to 30 days. School data is retained and deleted according to the school's own retention schedule, and the school can export or delete it at any time.
Your rights
You have the right to access a copy of your data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, write to hello@sequens.education. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. See the cookie statement for the detail, including the one third-party request the site does make.
Changes
If this notice changes materially we will say so on this page and, where it affects you, by email. Last reviewed 1 August 2026.
